Designing and typesetting books, journals, brochures and other publications requires skills and expertise, but also the inclination to think purposefully and imaginatively at the same time. Print and digital layouts offer diverse possibilities to communicate with readers and viewers verbally and visually, providing the option to give just as much significance to the appearance of a publication as to its educational importance or commercial use. Indeed, the quality of the visual design always ensures that the layout lives up to the functional purpose, but is not restricted to this.

Within the framework of a project, I always strive to create designs that are uniquely functional.

There has to be wit, style, and viusal eloquence in the layout without these becoming exagerrated. I use Adobe software products to create designs for various purposes, but the formatting of a Microsoft Word document can also be complex. If you need to create a style sheet in Word but you are at a loss, or if a publication needs editing in InDesign, I can also be of assistance. Beyond design, I have had the honour to organize an evening of Irish songs, accompanied by the recitation of poems. I also took part in the organization of other cultural events, such as public readings, conferences, and workshops. If you are an artist or aesthetically inclined and would like a musical performance, a public reading or a workshop to take place, I would be glad to give support in organizing the event. I find it motivating if I can contribute to the planning and organization of cultural events which initiate dialogue and evoke the creative spirit in all participants.

Each book has its own character. The weight, size, and colour of the paper, the colour and size of the font, and the stylistic features of the typeface itself all determine what the first impression of the reader is when they take the book into their hands. It is definitely beyond the cover that the character lies, but the cover also shapes it dynamically. In each case, the visual and verbal cues of presentation and representation have to be taken into consideration when creating the structure of the layout.
Irish songs are of a rich diversity, intertwining James Joyce’s works, among others. With the help of a rising soprano accompanied by a talented harpist, we selected the pieces of Irish song that matched the spirit of James Joyce’s poems included in the volume entitled Chamber Music. The poems were read out by two actors, taking turns in between two songs. The alternation of poems read out by the actors and songs with harp accompaniment awarded the participants an evening of distinguished artistic experience and a special memory of Bloomsday in Hungary.
Devising a piece of jewellery also requires design thinking. Depending on the requested style, the prospective owner, the occasion, and the available materials, the creation of an earring and a matching bracelet, necklace, or ring can require different approaches. That is why creating jewellery is always a creative challenge to me, resulting in items which remain part of your signature style for a long time.
